The Right Wiper Blades for your Vauxhall Corsa & How to Fit Them

The Vauxhall Corsa has been one of the most popular new cars in the UK for decades, so it is important to know which wiper blades you need for your model.

How to check which wiper blades fit a Vauxhall Corsa

The Vauxhall Corsa received its world premiere in the early-90s as the much-anticipated replacement for the popular Vauxhall Nova.

While the moniker has been in service since the 1980s in Europe – when the Vauxhall Nova was known as the Opel Corsa on the continent – the Corsa name made its UK debut (as a Vauxhall) in 1993.

Since then, the Corsa has evolved through five generations right up to today where it consistently ranks as the UK’s most popular small hatchback. Indeed, model has also been an annual best-seller in this country in previous years,

In this time the Corsa has changed significantly with each generation, not least the types of wiper blade you need to fit on a particular model.

It is therefore important to check which model you have to ensure you are purchasing the correct wiper blades for your Vauxhall

If you don’t know the age of your Corsa or which generation you are driving, don’t worry, simply use Wiperblades.co.uk’s vehicle registration tool to find out exactly what you need.

What Are Retrofit Wiper Blades?

The Vauxhall Corsa 1993-1999 and 2000-2006 generation models are offered with Retrofit Flat Wiper Blades.

Retrofit blades are designed to be an upgrade for older vehicles with traditional hook-type arms to modern, aerodynamic flat blade technology.

These types of wiper blades do not have a metal 'coat hanger' shaped frame. Instead, they have a tensioned metal strip running within the rubber structure of the wiper blade.

This design allows for a flatter aerodynamic shape which reduces wind noise.

Being smaller than a conventional wiper, it also provides less obstruction to the driver's field of vision.

When Is The Right Time To Change My Wiper Blades?

Wiper blades undergo a lot of stress when they are fixed to your car. As well as being a moving component exposed to the elements, the materials will inevitably wear down gradually when in use as they are making constant contact with the windscreen.

Indeed, wiper blades cope with more than simply wiping away water from your windscreen during rainy conditions – UV rays from the sun, deposits of oil from other cars around you, bugs and unforeseen debris all take their toll on them.

Wiper blades are designed to be durable and sturdy to withstand these challenges but they will ultimately wear down over time and if you don’t replace them, they could be classified as dangerous or illegal –your car won’t pass an MOT if this is the case.

So how do you know when to replace them? When driving, you might notice over time that the rubber blades will clear the windscreen less evenly, leaving some streaks of moisture in places. They may also start to squeak as the rubber encounters friction on the windscreen.

Regardless, it is recommended you change your wiper blades every 12 months to ensure you are getting optimum windscreen wiping performance.

If in doubt, you can inspect them close up and assess the blades for any blemishes, such as chips, tears and unevenness. If this occurs, then the time has come to get new wiper blades.
