About The BTCC

About The BTCC

The British Touring Car Championship has an illustrious history woven into fabric of motorsport, not just nationally but internationally too.

In fact, only the American NASCAR series and Formula 1 have enjoyed such longevity as the BTCC, which has been a staple of the motorsport schedule every year since 1958.

Indeed, the while saloon car racing has fluctuated in popularity in other nations, the British series has remained enduringly popular and still attracts plus-20 driver grids duking it out for the coveted #1 plate.

Dozens of manufacturers and high-profile racers have competed in BTCC over the years, not least during its 1990s heyday when the series lured ex-F1 drivers – including Gabriele Tarquini, Derek Warwick and Nigel Mansell – alongside a wealth of locally-sourced talent, many of whom would go on to big things on the international stage, such as Team Vertu’s own Tom Chilton.

With more than 40,000 fans filling the banks at each event and dedicated uninterrupted live coverage of races on ITV, the BTCC has earned a legendary reputation for its bumper-to-bumper racing, unpredictable results and breath-taking action.

For 2025, the BTCC will adopt a greener policy by adopting 100% fossil-free fuel, while the cars are equipped with a Hybrid system that allows for selective power boosts in the heat of battle.

About the Team

In a change for 2025, Vertu – parent company of Wiperblades.co.uk – will lend its name, backing and unmistakable branding to the Excelr8 Motorsport team, the outfit behind Team Vertu. While Team Vertu represents a whole new look and rebrand, Excelr8 Motorsport has nevertheless already established itself as a successful and well-proven BTCC operation.

This is despite Excelr8 being one of the younger teams on the grid having only made its series debut in 2019 against teams that have raced in BTCC for decades.Nevertheless, Excelr8 Motorsport quickly made its mark with its first win coming in 2021 following the switch to Hyundai machinery.

The success would prove a prelude to a stellar 2022 campaign that yielded six victories and with it the drivers’ championship for Tom Ingram.Since then, Ingram has come close twice more, finishing runner-up in both 2023 and 2024, while continuing to add to Excelr8 Motorsport’s podium trophy cabinet. In all, the team has achieved 20 wins over six seasons.

It means Ingram – together with team-mates Tom Chilton, Adam Morgan and Michael Crees – count themselves among the 2025 BTCC title favourites at the wheel of the Wiperblades.co.uk-sponsored Team Vertu Hyundai i30 N Fastbacks.

Adam Morgan

#33

A new signing for Team Vertu in 2025, Adam Morgan brings a wealth of experience and race-winning nous to Excelr8 Motorsport this season.

Making his BTCC debut back in 2012, Morgan has firmly established himself as one of the series’ elite racers with regular trips to the podium and 11 victories across a variety of different machinery.

Having finished the season inside the overall top ten in ten of the 12 BTCC seasons he has contested, Morgan stands tall as another high-quality weapon in Team Vertu’s 2025 BTCC armoury.

Meet the Drivers

Tom Chilton

#3

One of the most experienced drivers in all of touring cars, Tom Chilton debuted in BTCC way back in 2002 when he was just 17-years old.

Despite his youth, Chilton quickly made his mark in BTCC, scoring a shock podium on his debut before notching up his first victory in 2004. Going on to race with several of BTCC’s top teams, Chilton has also enjoyed long stints competing on the international stage in the World Touring Car Championship, where he was also a race winner.

Joining Excelr8 Motorsport in 2022, Chilton has topped the podium twice in the team’s Hyundai i30 N Fastback and was a top ten finisher in the overall standings last season.

Tom Ingram

#80

A perennial BTCC fan favourite, Tom Ingram has been at the forefront of Excelr8 Motorsport’s success in the series since joining forces with the team in 2021.

Making his BTCC debut in 2014, Ingram had already come close to title success prior to joining Excelr8 but his arrival would go on to take both driver and team to the next level. Turning Excelr8 into race winners for the first time in 2021 en route to fourth in the overall standings – by far and away the team’s best result in BTCC - Ingram went on to achieve his and the outfit’s first BTCC title the following year with six wins, 12 podiums and a 100% finishing record.

Over the following two seasons, Ingram continued to remain at the sharp end, adding to Excelr8’s victory tally but coming up just short overall. Nevertheless, by finishing twice runner-up in 2023 and 2024, 33-time race winner Ingram undoubtedly counts himself among BTCC royalty.

Michael Crees

#777

Another new name on the Team Vertu roster in 2025, Michael Crees has competed in series’ as diverse as BTCC, the Formula 1-supporting Porsche Supercup and Ginetta GT championship.

In the BTCC, Crees established himself as a regular top ten finisher and is a previous winner of the Jack Sears Trophy. His switch to the title-winning Excelr8 Hyundai i30 N Fastback will give him a chance to take another big step towards the front of the field.
