Wiperblades.co.uk-backed Team VERTU and Tom Ingram have strengthened their grip on the 2025 British Touring Car Drivers’ Championship after another race-winning weekend during Round 8 at Donington Park.
Having come into the BTCC weekend established with a comfortable advantage in the overall reckoning, a fifth victory of the season for Ingram has seen him swell his lead to 32-points with just two rounds and six races remaining.
On a particularly strong weekend all round for Team VERTU, Tom Chilton notched up his second victory of the season in Race 1 before Ingram took on and defeated title rival Ash Sutton to prevail in Race 3.
With a win in each of the most recent five events, Ingram is now in a strong position in the overall standings coming into the latter stages of the year.
The bumper weekend for both drivers has also raised hopes of an unprecedented clean sweep of BTCC titles for Excelr8 Motorsport-run Team VERTU.
Indeed, the two wins have seen the Hyundai squad move to just a single point shy of rivals Ford Alliance Racing in the Manufacturers standings, while it is now two points clear at the head of the Teams championship.
“It’s been a really, really strong weekend and if we could have similar at Silverstone next time out then it would be great,” Ingram beamed.
“We did exactly what we needed to do by maximising our performance across race day, although I’ll readily admit that we’ve had luck on our side a little bit because Ash got caught up in some drama in race two when he would probably have won. We also got a good reverse grid draw which set us up for the win in race three and means we’ve been able to extend our advantage in the standings.
“Once again the car has been on top form which all down to the little improvements we continue to make. It’s in such a nice place and it doesn’t seem to matter what kind of circuit we go to, it just works which is huge credit to the team.
“I don’t think there is such a thing as the perfect race car, but the Hyundai certainly isn’t far off. I’d say it’s the first time in my career that I’ve had a car that is this strong at so many circuits; it’s pretty special.”
