Wiperblades.co.uk-backed Team VERTU Put One Hand on BTCC Crown

Wiperblades.co.uk-backed Team VERTU sit in prime position to wrap up the 2025 British Touring Car Championship title after another race-winning weekend at Silverstone.

The penultimate round of the 2025 BTCC season, Tom Ingram overcame changeable weather conditions that left him on the back foot after qualifying to ultimately come through for a sixth win of the year in Race 2.

Indeed, Ingram’s credentials were put to the test in challenging circumstances as inclement weather during qualifying made getting a good grid spot something of a lottery.

Alas, Ingram wouldn’t win the jackpot, finding himself down in a lowly 14th coming into Race 1.

However, Ingram put on a superb charge to seventh in Race 1 – ahead of his title rival Ash Sutton – before storming to victory in Race 2.

Coupled with a run to fifth in Race 3, it means Ingram heads into the three-race finale at Brands Hatch armed with a comfortable 33-point advantage with a maximum of 67 points on the table.

If Ingram goes on to win the 2025 title it will represent a second career BTCC crown for both driver and Excelr8 Motorsport, though the first under the Team VERTU banner. Ingram’s six wins already equal his most achieved in a single season, while he has already exceeded his personal best in terms of points overall.

“I think we’ve had as good a weekend as we could have hoped for given our qualifying pace,” Ingram said. “We knew that the TTB was always going to play against us in that scenario, so we just had to be fairly tactful with our moves and opportunities that presented themselves.

“The first race, if I’m honest, I was surprised to be able to outscore Ash as I thought he was going to claw some points back on us and then in the second, we took the risk of going with the soft tyre expecting a lot of others to be on the medium – meaning victory had to be the target.

“We were never going to outscore Ash in race three when he had the soft tyre on so had to just try and minimise our losses, which we managed to do despite some questionable driving from some of those we were battling with.

“We had to pick and choose our battles a bit but we come away from the weekend with a solid lead and can now put our full focus onto Brands Hatch.”

While it was a fairly tough weekend for Team VERTU’s other drivers – Tom Chilton, Senna Proctor and Adam Morgan – the results leave Team VERTU in contention for an unprecedented triple crown of Manufacturers’ and Team’s Championship titles.

In the Manufacturers’ reckoning, Excelr8 Motorsport is eight points adrift of rivals Alliance Racing, while in the Teams’ standings Team VERTU is just three points shy of the top spot.
